Qui sommes-nous

Tolerance Youth Understanding is a society for migrants which has been in existence since 1980. The society represents the vocational, social, sporting and cultural interests of people from all over the world who have migrated to Bremen.

Our mission is to promote understanding between German citizens and migrants, or people with a migration background. We seek mutual appreciation of other cultural values and views.

We have a tradition of providing activities in which everyone can take part, while avoiding polarisation and instead bonding and integrating the different nationalities. That is a good prerequisite for feeling at home here.

What we offer:
• Naturalisation: what are the advantages of German citizenship? Where and how do I apply? What preconditions do I have to fulfil? What happens after I've applied?
• Training: how to write job applications; Which job is most suitable? What happens during an interview?
• Further education: what are the possibilities of getting a qualification? What colleges of further education are there? How can I improve my chances of a place?
• Sport: TJV has been a member of the Sparte Football (leisure) club since 1. April 2003.
• Public rooms: the TJV's rooms are available for use by both juveniles and adults, who help in equipping them. We have a café where people can have a chat, listen to music and learn about other cultures, there's the internet with its social media, a seminar room for particular events, including film shows, and classrooms for language and integration courses.

Projects:
• KOMŞU: a cross-generation and cross-nationality living project.
• memi (Mentors for Migrants): integration is not “someone else's job” – it is the task of the whole of the community. With the memi project, fresh immigrants are followed as they are incorporated into the Bremen community.
• Working groups / activities: as well as its own activities and projects, the TJV offers an opportunity to develop other working groups and activities.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
