Qui sommes-nous

"Help for Betrawati / Help the Children (HTC)" was founded in 1999 as a non-profit organization in Deggendorf and arranges sponsorships for children in Nepal, in the Naldum area and in the capital Kathmandu.
The non-profit organization Hilfe für Betrawati (HTC) has been arranging sponsorships for children in Nepal, one of the 10 poorest countries in the world, since 1999. With the support of their sponsoring parents, these children can attend school. The board of directors works on a voluntary basis. All donations and sponsorship money benefit the children without any deductions. In Nepal, our employee Bharat Krishna Rana responsibly implements the jointly decided plans. He is supported by a dedicated team of Nepalese employees such as teachers, nurses and auxiliary staff.

Project work
Help for Betrawati (HTC) provides help for self-help, firstly to strengthen personal responsibility and secondly to motivate the parents of our sponsored children to work. We involve the villagers in all of our actions. In this way we prevent a recipient mentality. The village community learns to feel responsible for the community across caste boundaries.

Construction, equipment and support of schools, kindergartens and evening classes for women:
• Through donations it was possible to help Betrawati to set up many schools or to build new ones.
• We pay additional teachers. Sensible and good teaching can be guaranteed with our teachers. The teachers also receive regularly training from us.
• In kindergarten classes we offer small village children the opportunity to prepare for school in a playful way.
• Establishment of support classes for literacy among women, who acquire basic skills in writing, reading and arithmetic six evenings a week.
Medical supplies:
• Construction and operation of two medical wards with manning by two Nepalese nurses (CMA = Community Medical Assistant)
• Camps with doctors from various medical specialities such as gynaecology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, etc.
• Hygiene training for children and adults
• Preventive health programs for women
• Acquisition of stretchers and instruction of the villagers so that the sick and injured no longer have to be dragged on their backs to the bus station 700 meters higher, as was customary in the past.
Individual responsibility:
• Schooling the children alone is not enough. Depending on the donation received, HTC specifically supports the families in earning a small income, e.g. by raising goats. A pregnant goat serves as start-up capital.
• Help for Betrawati HTC is pursuing the same goal with the training courses in vegetable growing and marketing for farmers. Help for Betrawati HTC also equips families of craftsmen, such as tailors and blacksmiths, with tools and takes care of training and further education.
• To improve the living conditions for all villagers, Help for Betrawati HTC is also installing water pipes and renewing the irrigation systems for the terraced fields.
• To avoid frequent respiratory diseases, especially among women and girls, we set up smoke outlets on the huts' cooking areas.
Toilets:
• “Help for Betrawati “has had 250 latrines built for health care in the Betrawati, Naldum and Sallebash project areas. Since 2016 there have even been earthquake-proof metal toilets for every sponsored family.
Health, hygiene, cooking and agriculture training
• By means of health and hygiene training courses, we would like to educate the village population about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.
• The cooking and agriculture training are so important because the one-sided diet with the everyday 'Dhal Bhat', (rice with lentils), leads to malnutrition. Our trainers show people how they can grow and process healthy vegetables that were previously unknown, such as radishes or cauliflowers.
