Qui sommes-nous

PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) is a UK based charity founded in 2004. PEAS uses an innovative SmartAid model to develop sustainable secondary schools that permanently widen access to secondary education in Uganda and in Zambia. Their dream is that one day every child in Africa will benefit from a quality secondary education.

Our mission is to unlock the potential of Africa by delivering equal access to affordable, quality secondary education.

PEAS develops and launches secondary schools that contribute to long-term societal change, poverty reduction and the empowerment of young people in Uganda and Zambia.

Activities:
• PEAS builds and runs sustainable, high quality secondary schools that give poor children access to secondary education in Sub-Saharan Africa. We have opened 13 schools in Uganda (teaching 3,000 pupils), and one in Zambia.
PEAS believes that for charity to be worthwhile, it must be sustainable. Our SmartAid model means that the schools we set up quickly stop being dependent on UK funding. PEAS schools are sustainable because after PEAS has fundraised for the buildings, all the costs are covered locally through government subsidy, income generating activities and boarding student fees. PEAS does not pay for the running costs of the schools.
• Bridges to Africa: Bridges to Africa is a national sponsored walk organised by PEAS, involving students from schools across London and the UK that has been running since 2006. Students join together to complete 10 km bridge walks in London, Manchester and Birmingham. The money raised by students is used to help build new affordable secondary schools in Uganda and Zambia through the charity.

Sabrina Sallis is the Fundraising Manager of PEAS.
