Über uns

Fishers Union Organisation (FUO) is a fisher’s community non-governmental and non- profit organization established by small scale fishers upon realizing the needs for improved primary health care services, environmental conservations and sustainable development in the fishing communities of Lake Victoria Islands in Tanzania.
The organization established in 2005 and formaly registered in 3rd August 2007.

Vision
FUO intent to become one of the best development partners in empowering fishers to become prosperous and conserve environment for sustainable development.

Mission
To empower all fishing communities to have just and prosperous society through capacity building, technical skills and support using participatory approach for sustainable environment livelihood’.

Objectives:
• To promote affordable alternative energy solutions designed through a local fishers’ engagement and Sustainable Fishing.
• To promote Fishers rights
• To work out Solutions that mitigates and tackles Climate Change through execution of innovative technologies and business models of fishers.
• To promote equitable provision of accessible and clean drinking water & quality Sanitation Facilities and improvement of community physical infrastructure
• To enhance economic growth and creating a sustainable business ecosystem that transforms remote communities.
• To promote Gender Equality & Women Empowerment, and Address Gender Based Violence Issues
• To Promote Child Protection, Children rights, Youth Development and Address the Issues related to Abuse and marginalization of Children, Adolescents and Youth and address HIV & AIDS;
• Engage in Good governance promotion and Social Accountability Monitoring (SAM) and Public Expenditure Tracking System (PETS).

Projects:
• ROADS Project: Reduce HIV/AIDS infection in fishing communities – Ilema and Nyamagana
• Work Place HIV/AIDS Intervention: Awareness and education about HIV/AIDS prevention in work places
• Education on environmental conservation Nyambeba village in Buchosa DC: Promote environmental conservation
• Education to reduce stigma, VCT in fishing communities (Sengerema)
• Photo and film documentary on forestry and environment
• Water Sanitation and Hygiene: Facilitate availability of water and promote hygienic behavior and reduce water borne diseases
• Provide support for gender equity, attitude: Address alcohol, drugs, stigma and discrimination in relation to HIV/AIDS infection.

Juvenary E. A Matagili is the Executive Director of the Fishers Union Organisation (FUO).
