Sobre nosotros

GOHO GETS MOVING is a project to encourage a healthy lifestyle among the children of GOstenhof/Ost. The project is run by the “Schöpfrad” (bucket / waterwheel) Association, which promotes a better way of life. The activities of the organisation centre on publicity, with talks, seminars and workshops on the following topics:
• healthy nutrition and way of life
• ecological agriculture and dialogue between producers and consumers
• fair trade
• consumers' responsibility

In the Gostenhof/Ost district of Nürnberg, the GOHO GETS MOVING project is finding new ways to prevent children from becoming overweight. Apart from encouraging exercise and a healthy diet, we also look at the whole picture, including the child's background and living conditions.
We focus on three target groups:
• The children
• The parents and the social environment
• The teachers

Schools, kindergartens, educational and leisure facilities are cooperating in the project. They spotlight the issue by including activities related to a healthy diet and more sport into their timetables.

GOHO GETS MOVING has three main focal points:
• whole food nutrition
• exercise, sport, relaxation
• ego-strengthening

New aspects have been added over time. Equal opportunities for children from disadvantaged families and the encouragement of their talents are becoming increasingly important.

Project: pluck, not poverty
We have an admittedly ambitious aim – to give children courage.
We do not select and reject, we do not look for mistakes or disadvantages. We offer children alternative courses of action and encourage them to develop their various skills, abilities and key qualifications. Health is more than the absence of disease – health involves the body, mind and soul. And that is where we come in.
We hope to increase the Gostenhof children's chances of full participation in society and to reduce the later costs of long-term unemployment, illness and criminality.

Monika Ott is the project coordinator of GOHO GETS MOVING.

On request, we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation and provide up to date information and contacts in the field of our work.
