Spice Without Borders, initiated by Erick Matsanza in 2014, is a global leadership academy and incubator for social change innovation by those at the margins of society who want to enact social change. Through its 6 month catalytic Spice Accelerator Program, she exists to identify and equip a new generation of passionate change leaders from the backyards of society with creative ideas and skills necessary to start sustainable projects that accelerate change through innovation and cultural transformation. Participants come from diverse backgrounds; cultural, religious, socio-economic and educational. These could be activists, creatives, entrepreneurs, initiators or innovators. They share this diversity as they work, live and learn together. They are exposed to methods, techniques and theories that are relevant to their personal ideas. To ensure individualized training, Spice Without Borders selects a maximum of 6 – 20 participants per academic year through a vigorous selection process. We also reach out to young learners through Pilipili 101 clubs.

Participants join other social change leaders on our platform, SpiceTalks, a catalytic accelerator for intense social change where we identify change leaders from our communities who are privy to social ills and are passionate about accelerating change. The leaders creatively share their innovative life transforming social change ideas that amplify social ills.

Our corporate identity is a red chili which represents a social change accelerator ready to creatively apply their passions in solving the most urgent problems at the backyard of society, creating more inclusive communities free from all forms of discrimination.

We do not discriminate participants in our initiatives based on gender, ethnicity, race, colour, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, socio-economic status, disability or any other status. Selection to the Spice Accelerator is not based on academic performance or qualification however participants need to have a social change project or idea that will create a mindset change in their community. Be atleast 18 years or older with a basic knowledge in English (reading, writing and speaking, basic knowledge in using a computer and willingness to learn and share their skills with peers and mentors.)

Programs:
• Spice Accelerator: Spice Accelerator is our six-month entrepreneurship mentorship and one-on-one training program. It is a catalytic training that equips participants, based on their talents and dreams with; creative ideas, tools, methods and skills they need to start sustainable projects that accelerate social change in their backyards. We are not an academic institution and therefore formal education is not a requirement. All you need is a passion for an idea or running a project that transforms mindsets.
• Workshops & Training: This is our series of spicy, high – impact workshops designed for change makers; activists, creatives,entrepreneurs, initiators and innovators who desire to start the journey to actualizing their ideas. Be Spiced! Workshops will help build the practical skills that you require in the daily operations of a social venture. Whether you want to know how to initiate, brand,fund-raise or measure your social impact our workshops will spice your thought process as each topic is presented in a clear and simple way.
• SpiceTalks: SpiceTalks is a catalytic accelerator for intense social change where we identify change leaders from our communities who are privy to social ills and are passionate about accelerating social change. On this platform, the leaders creatively share their personal stories that amplify social ills and exceptionally spicy ideas from the backyard of society. It is a platform by Spice Without Borders, a registered international not for profit organization in Kenya
• Spice Festival: We strongly believe arts and un-harmful culture can be catalytic accelerator for social change. Spice Festival connects inner spice with audiences and inspire individuals from diverse backgrounds to create scenes that establish networks of cultural organizations ensuring audiences access to new forms of creative expressions. Spice Festival brings together activists, creatives, entrepreneurs, initiators and innovators from diverse backgrounds to celebrate their abilities and achievements. Spice Festival seeks to directly promote and foster equality and tolerance by bringing people together in peace and harmony for they deserve a celebration where the everyday life takes a step back and creatively reflect. We believe this will promote and stimulate a sense of active citizenship, tolerance and intercultural understanding.
