Über uns

Rural Rehab South Africa (RuReSA) is a group of concerned and committed rural Physio, Occupational, Speech and Language Therapists, Audiologists and Psychologists. The group seeks to promote access to appropriate rehabilitation services in rural areas by addressing current policy, inputting on curriculum, providing a support network for current rural therapists and promoting advocacy for accessible service delivery for children and adults with disabilities in South Africa. They are also part of the organising team for the annual South African Rural Health Conference.
RuReSA is registered with the Department of Social Development as a Non Profit Organisation

RuReSA strives to be a voice for rural therapists

We are passionate about creating positive change through rehabilitation which will:
• Prevent disability,
• Empower the disabled through early intervention,
• Promote healthy and active lifestyles after disability,
• Enable the disabled to participate fully within their communities, thereby fulfilling the government goal of "a long and healthy life for all South Africans."

Objectives:
• To promote the provision of rehabilitation services in rural areas in South Africa
• To promote the recruitment and retention of rehabilitation staff in rural areas, and to lobby for appropriate working conditions, staffing norms and resource allocation to this end
• To represent the interests of rural rehabilitation service providers and users, to policy-makers, professional associations and other bodies
• To promote best practice in rural areas through exchange of resources and experience, to promote rural rehabilitation careers amongst prospective students and therapists, through partnerships with schools, universities and professional associations.
• To promote the development, dissemination and application of evidence for best practice in rural areas.

Stephanie Homer is the Office Co-ordinator of Rural Rehab South Africa (RuReSA).
