Qui sommes-nous

The NMRW was formerly known as the Rural Women's Movement (RWM). The organisation was established in 1986 in response to forced removals by the apartheid regime. NMRW has a national office in Alberton Johannesburg and the regional offices are in four provinces namely Limpopo Moutse and Tsimanyane around Marble Hall, North West Brits and Madibogo Pan, Mpumalanga (in Driefontein and Kwa-Ngema and KwaZulu-Natal around the rural areas of Vryheid.

National Movement of Rural Women (NMRW) is a leading organisation in networking and empowering rural women to be part of the decision making in sustainable development.

The NMRW has initiated income generating projects to improve rural women's lives by creating employment and providing services to rural communities.

The mission of the NMRW is to address the needs of rural women through the following:

• Education and training;
• Networking
• Information sharing and dissemination;
• Lobbying and advocacy; and
• Project support accompaniment.

Programmes:
• Capacity Building and training Programmes: Financial management; Projects and business management; Tendering process and Identifying and appraising business.
• Health and Welfare: HIV and Aids; Education on Aids; Distribute condoms and materials; Advocate on discrimination of HIV women; Create platform where people discuss the disease.
• Gender and Development Programme
• Linking Rural Women with the Resources for Development
• Income generating programmes such as sewing, beadwork, pottery and fruit canning.

Likhapha Mbatha is the Managing Director of NMRW.
