Über uns

Cetacean Conservation Center (CCC) is a Chilean non-governmental and non-profit organization that works actively in the conservation of cetacean species and aquatic ecosystems in Chile and the Southern Hemisphere. Since its creation in 2001 CCC has became the most important organization in Chile in research, education, and strengthening of national policies related to the conservation and non-lethal use of marine mammals.

Our objectives are :
• Promote effective policies for management, conservation and marine protection.
• Develop non-lethal research program on whales and marine ecosystems, with special emphasis on endangered species.
• Identify and evaluate human impacts on whale populations and to propose mitigation measures.
• Promote sustainable development of coastal communities through activities of watching high quality marine fauna.
• Increase public awareness and promote active and informed participation of citizens / government in conservation of marine biodiversity and to promote the reduction of anthropogenic impacts.
• Strengthen national and international cooperation in marine conservation strategies.

Projects:
• CHILE CITES 2002, Our Opportunity to Preserve Life: People aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting these species international trade.
• Southern Right Whale Project: For protection to the species in national waters when it is spotted along the Chilean coast.
• Network of Marine Mammal Sightings Chile: To identify areas of greatest potential for development research and conservation programs and initiatives related to responsible tourism whale watching (TRAC) in the country.
• Alfaguara Project: The scientific research program Alfaguara project allowed us to identify the area with the highest sighting of blue whales in the Southern Hemisphere (north of Isla Grande de Chiloé) and to promote conservation measures at national and international levels to reduce current threats affecting the population of this iconic species.
• Campaign Chile 2008, Whale Sanctuary:

Results show that cooperative work between civil organizations, authorities and citizens is the best tool to reach conservation and community development goals promoted by CCC.
