Sobre nosotros
Robinah Muganzi, Set Her Free’s Founder & Director of Operations, knows all too well the challenges girls face growing up in Uganda’s slum communities. Together, with long-time friend and volunteer Robin Nestler, they launched in 2011 an innovative social project: Set Her Free. Today, the organization provides comprehensive rehabilitative, health, educational, and vocational services to girls and young women living in some of Uganda’s poorest communities. Set Her Free has two centers in Kampala: Bukoto office about 100 meters north of Trinity Primary School and Kawempe office djacent to the DFCU Bank, south of Tick Hotel, and north of the Police Station on Bombo Road.
Our mission
Set Her Free equips Uganda’s most vulnerable girls and young women with the knowledge and skills that they need to lead self-determined lives, forever breaking the cycle of poverty.
Our work
• Rehabilitative services: Our social workers create individualized strategies for each beneficiary, from temporary housing to life skills courses to counseling—building confidence, self-awareness, and leadership.
• Health services: We provide medical services to mitigate disparate health outcomes in our community; these interventions include HIV testing, sexual and reproductive health education, food security support, and clinical referrals.
• Formal education: We provide full academic scholarships to some of Uganda’s most academically rigorous boarding schools, universities, and training institutes to qualifying beneficiaries.
• Vocational training: We offer an intensive six-month vocational training course, which develops valuable, in-demand skills and prepares students for the unique challenges of Uganda’s economic climate.
Projects:
• Formal Education: Set Her Free had a total of 45 children benefiting in the sponsorship project.
• Vocational skills ranging from Tailoring, Pedicure/Manicure, Catering, and Hair Dressing
• Basic Business skills using the Work For Life curriculum
• Poultry Project: Her Free was blessed with funding from Spirit in Action which saw it establish its poultry farming project as a business but also as a model farm for the girls to learn poultry keeping.
• Crop Husbandry: Set Her Free also acquired 8 acres of land and is aiming to acquire 2 additional acres for a total of 10 acres. One of the main crops grown was maize, where the organization was able to reap 1000 kg.
• Organizational Capacity Development: The Director of Operations appreciates an Organizational Development Expert for the training provided to staff and the process of organizational review for better performance in terms of new policies, procedures and systems to be put in place as concluded in the training
