Solace International was founded in the last quarter of 2002. Solace International is dedicated to providing long-term stability in developing countries by empowering girls and women through economic and education development.

The Solace mission is to create community partnerships to establish self-sustainable economic development in emerging nations. Our focus with the Afghanistan Girls School Project is to build schools for girls in northern Afghanistan, and provide a market for traditional crafts.

By opening a fair-wage market in the US to the village crafts-women, Solace seeks to provide additional income and status to women within their families. By constructing buildings where girls can learn to read and write outside the homes, Solace is opening the door for girls to advance to higher education and professional careers.

As of 2005, Solace has built 7 schools in Afghanstan for over 3000 students. Solace currently employs over 180 women in textile related cottage industry in the northern Afghan province of Jawzjan. Solace believes its model of providing a marketplace for the sale of high quality handcrafted goods, the proceeds of which are used to build Afghan girls schools, provides a solution for improving the economic and educational opportunities for women.

Edward Merritt is the Event Coordinator and has traveled extensively throughout the United States planning fundraising events in support of the Afghanistan Girls School Project. Although he devotes most of his time with planning fundraising events from coast to coast, his goals also include working closely with the orphanage in Sheberghan, Afghanistan, assisting with curriculum development and early childhood education.

For other net participants we can deliver a lecture in the field of our work.
