Clowns Without Borders (CWB-USA), founded in 1995, is a non-profit organization which aims to offer joy and laughter to relieve the suffering of all persons, especially children, who live in areas of crisis including refugee camps, conflict zones and territories in situations of emergency.

We bring levity, contemporary clown/circus oriented performances and workshops into communities so that they can celebrate together and forget for a moment the tensions that darken their daily lives. We also seek to raise our society´s awareness of affected populations and to promote a spirit of solidarity.

CWB works with relief organizations and alone addressing psycho-social needs of those who suffer from traumatic situations. We are not doctors, psychologists or social-workers, but together with these professionals and community participants we create joyful experiences from which children and their communities thrive. We partner with individuals and organizations to bring small teams of professional performing artists to share performances and workshops with children and their families in refugee camps, conflict zones, or with communities who have experienced trauma or crisis.

Four main objectives:
• to bring psycho-social support to children and their communities through joy and laughter;
• to establish connections with local grassroots organizations that are working to alleviate the suffering of communities;
• to connect local performers to these organizations so that celebrations of laughter can continue on a more frequent basis after the expedition is over;
• to raise our society´s awareness of affected populations and to promote a spirit of peace and solidarity.

Our work:
CWB-USAs work succeeds best when we complement the work of other respected NGOs and local organizations in serving the needs of children and families. In addition to partnering with the 11 other CWB international chapters, CWB-USA has collaborated with more than a dozen NGOs in our field programs, such as UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders.
Psychosocial support through laughter for children and families in crisis. CWB-USA designs its field programs to best suit the psychosocial needs of communities by working in close coordination with our partner non-governmental organizations and local grass-roots organizations. CWB-USA provides innovative programming that helps our partners achieve their psychosocial objectives.
For example, theatre workshops provide creative exercises that help children learn to work and play together.
Performances in the community can often bring together previously segregated groups while providing a safe setting for all people to laugh together.
Our volunteer artists are professional performers who devise their own clown performances.
Our audiences have been as large as 8,000 people.
We also provide workshops for groups ranging from 5 to 50 people. We design our projects to be flexible and culturally appropriate where we work. Our programs aim to build resiliency through laughter and play.

Projects around the world for example:
• Chiapas, Mexico: CWB-USA´s 100th Project
• Haiti Hurricane Relief
• Dallas in partnership with Refugee Services
• Lesvos, Greece: To bring laughter to refugees and migrants fleeing to Europe.

Molly Levine is the Executive Director of Clowns Without Borders (CWB-USA).
