Believing that access to digital media and IT promotes the development of societies in the global south, we have combined our experience in IT, development co-operation, project management and our experience in Africa to found the NGO “Leapfrog” in 2011. Leapfrog is a children’s game in which one player kneels to provide a vault for the other player to hop over like a frog. We chose this slogan because we want our IT projects to contribute to the empowerment of kids and youths in the countries of the global south. We want to enable them to play a role in the development of their countries.
We see ourselves as partners of civil society organisations including IT programmes, businesses and other institutions in countries of the global south (mainly in East Africa). We want IT to be re-used in a social and sustainable way. We support IT programmes by providing hardware and software as well as technical and financial support.
Our goals: Leapfrog wants to contribute to the reduction of the so called digital gap and make knowledge accessible to everyone. We consider having access to digital media and IT is a right to which every human being is entitled. Having access to alternative media sources, being able to connect and network, and exchanging ideas and opinions helps people to be able to play a role in their country’s development. Connect, empower and change is thus our goal.
We want to create a win-win situation for those that donate hardware as well as for those that will receive it. Bridging the digital gap goes along with taking social responsibility to ensure sustainability, creating a world with more solidarity and equality of opportunities.
• Collects computers and installs new systems or programmes as necessary for their new purpose at schools and civil society organisations in the global south
• Organises the collection and transport of this equipment
• Technically and financially supports IT programmes and projects
