It is the objective of the project to support the sustainable development aid of deaf-mute children by establishing godparenthoods between German families and Kenyan children.
The deaf-mute children of the St. Anthony-Primary School for the Deaf are particularly disadvantaged in Kenya because of their handicap: In addition to that, some are suffering from mental and other physical handicaps. Each of these children cannot hear anything or only very few and is taught in sign language. At present, about 140 female and male pupils have lessons at that school. The objective of the lessons of these children is to prepare them for a training for a skilled trade.
The family conditions of these children are poor. In most cases, unfortunately, in particular handicapped children are hardly supported by the families in Kenya.
From 1996 to 1997, Klaus Schmidt was working as a guest teacher at the St. Anthony-Primary School for the Deaf in Webuye. He is a qualified bank clerk, a graduate in business management and Master of Business Administration.
I can offer specialist information on the project or give a lecture.
