SOLUX e.V. is a charity organisation (NGO), founded in 2003 and based in Taufkirchen / Germany, to introduce solar lights in developing countries. This non-profit project is making a significant contribution towards improving living conditions in developing countries.

We produce and sell eco-friendly solar lights for developing countries. Our aim is to provide reliable, eco-friendly lighting for people in areas without a stable power supply. SOLUX photovoltaic lanterns are extremely robust and easy to handle. They are designed for long lasting, everyday use and the handy solar panel used to charge the lamp, can also be used to charge a large variety of mobile phones.

Solux has developed and improved its products through several generations and, working in close cooperation with Non Government Organisations (NGOs), has rolled out multiple projects in South America and Africa, shipping thousands of lamps in the process.

With the SOLUX concept, Ludwig Bölkow Foundations has developed a program in which the developing countries are involved as partners. As far as possible, the manufacture, maintenance and sale of the SOLUX lanterns are managed by our partners in specially equipped workshops.

This concept not only ensures that people in poorer countries will be able to buy lanterns at reasonable prices (due to the low labor costs), but that they will also be able to manufacture, sell and maintain these lanterns on their own.

The SOLUX program presents a new method of work-sharing between North and South, a method that could act as the future model for North-South co-operation. Here, only the high-technology components and materials are imported from industrialized countries, the developing countries assemble these components on-site with locally produced parts.

In March 2010 the German National Committee of the UN Decade of Education declared SOLUX` Ghanaian project "One Child One Solar Light" an official UN Decade Project.
