Films for the Earth is an environment initiative recognised by UNESCO and founded in 2007 as a non-profit-making organisation, based in Winterthur, Switzerland. It is politically and religiously neutral and is neither reactionary nor militant.
The overriding aim of Films for the Earth is to contribute to the preservation of the integrity of the Earth’s eco-system, the basis of life.
Our mission is to spread knowledge by bringing selected documentary films to as wide an audience as possible.
The focus is on films which show the influence of mankind on the Earth, for example (identifying problems) or which show people who live in long term harmony with the planet’s eco-system (inspirational) or which help to awaken an appreciation of the creation, or which explain sustainability and how the global puzzle fits together.
• Films for the Earth invites people to come to free film evenings. At the end, every member of the audience receives a free DVD of the film. They should not keep them, but instead pass them on from friend to friend, thus touching the lives of as many people as possible and spreading knowledge. Films for the Earth inspires, gives away, and spreads knowledge. So far 17,000 DVDs have been given away, reaching 300,000 people with their deep content.
• Parallel to this, there are school actions in which sixth formers receive gratis DVDs. The DVDs are also distributed regularly by our network of members.
• The Website www.filmefürdieerde.org has become the largest German language portal on the subject of films and sustainability, and has about 5000 hits a month, from throughout the German speaking world.
Kai Pulfer is the president and chair of Films for the Earth.
On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up to date information and contacts in the field of our work.
