Les Thèmes

Hans Robert Hiegel was born in Kaiserslautern in 1954. He studied architecture, received a scholarship from the "Karlsruher Hochschulvereinigung" (association of universities and colleges of the city of Karlsruhe) and the "Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)" (German academic exchange service) to study in London, where he received the AA diploma from the Architectural Association in 1977. He was entrusted with various teaching assignments in England and in Germany, he collaborated in the executive board of the "FRANKFURTER FORUM FÜR STADT-ENTWICKLUNG" (forum of urban development of the city of Francfort) and he is active in the executive board of the "Bund Deutscher Baumeister" (federation of German master builders) and in the "Leitungskreis der Evangelischen Erwachsenen-Bildung in Karlsruhe" (management of the Protestant adult education in Karlsruhe).

The basic idea of his activity as an architect is to regard building as a contribution to the community which facilitates acting and communication. Identification and thus a piece of home can be created from spacious and material forms of expression. Therefore, the intention is to harmonize theory and pragmatism of joining together under everyday conditions.

His work is internationally awarded, published and exhibited. He received many invitations from foreign countries, among others from Israel, where he gave lectures on his work. In 1986, his bridge project (Canale Grande) was shown at the large biennal exhibition of architecture in Venice, in 1990, his realized project "Kindergarten OASE" (kindergarten OASIS) was shown at the exhibition "Neoclassico" in Italy and his internationally controversially discussed project of the so-called Campanile for Francfort which was included in the UIA-Atlas for the future of architecture at the beginning of the year 2002 together with other international projects and who is accompanied in this regard by the congratulations of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
