Andheri-Hilfe Bonn is a free and independent organisation promoting development cooperation in India and Bangladesh. It originated from a private initiative supporting poor children in an orphanage at Andheri near Mumbay (then Bombay). Since 1967 it is registered as a non-profit association.
The financing of our work is based on donations from about 20.000 private persons and companies as well as on public grants from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and from the Commission of the European Union.
Andheri-Hilfe's strategy is that the poor people themselves are planning a project aiming at eliminating the reasons for their poverty in a sustainable way by mobilizing and strengthening their available self-help forces. Andheri-Hilfe is providing a success-oriented support of limited duration only, in order not to create new forms of dependency on foreign assistance.
Through actually almost 300 projects in India and Bangladesh, Andheri-Hilfe supports self-help initiatives of poor and underprivileged people and thus contributes to a sustainable improvement of their social and economic situation. The poor people concerned as well as experienced local organisations, the staff members of which are well acquainted with the target groups, constitute the partners of Andheri-Hilfe in an intensive dialogue. This dialogue is leading to the multi-faceted execution of projects in the areas of health, basic education and vocational training, rural development and resource management, social development in urban regions as well as rehabilitation after disasters.
For other net participants we can offer an expert opinion, deliver a lecture, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
